Abstract

This article explores the concept of academic freedom in higher education institutions and the critical need for its constitutional protection. It examines how constitutional safeguards contribute to democracy, legal certainty, and international compliance, ensuring that academic institutions remain independent and resistant to external pressures. Special attention is given to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, analyzing its provisions on academic freedom in comparison with international standards and best practices. The article argues that embedding academic freedom at the constitutional level is essential for fostering intellectual inquiry, innovation, and societal progress.
